Teddy; noun [pl. teddies] 1 (also teddy bear) a soft toy bear; 2 a woman’s all-in-one undergarment.

In November 1902 the then US-President Theodore Roosevelt (nicknamed “Teddy”) participated in a hunting trip in Mississippi. In its course he refused to shoot the only victim – a bear – which had been cornered for him. This incident was pictured by a Washington Post cartoonist published there on November 16th 1902.
. Thereupon a Russian emigrant displayed a plush bear made by his wife in the window of his New York shop. It instantaneously became a hit.
“Teddy’s Bear” was born!
